Sharon Forshee Haukohl

Sharon Forshee Haukohl, MA, has more than 30 years of writing, consulting, and training experience in corporate, higher education, and nonprofit settings. She has served in development roles at Emory University, The University of Alabama at Birmingham, as Director of Development Research for Birmingham-Southern College, as a consultant for a Nashville, TN-based fundraising firm, and as a Senior Strategist for Nonprofit Navigators, a Birmingham, AL-based nonprofit consulting firm. Sharon has also held roles in the corporate sector as a marketing/public relations consultant and Director of Sales & Marketing for a large, international market research firm. Sharon formed Crestside Consulting with a mission to equip nonprofits as they take strategic next steps toward effectively meeting fund raising and community impact goals. She excels in strategic planning, community engagement, program development, evaluation systems, and grant strategy/writing/reporting.

 

Sharon has a keen ability to understand the heart and mission of a nonprofit and guide leadership in developing effective programs that are attractive to funders. She has in-depth knowledge of and relationships with Birmingham, Alabama, and Nashville foundation and corporate funders and enjoys connecting deserving nonprofits with these potential supporters. Her extensive experience in a variety of settings has given her the background needed to guide nonprofits to move forward with next steps in their own nonprofit’s maturity model to optimize programmatic reach and funding. Sharon has a BA in English and Journalism from Auburn University and an MA in English from Emory University.

Laura Oppenheimer Harris, MBA, MA, has more than 30 years of writing, budgeting, and marketing experience in corporate and higher educational settings.  She has served in marketing and education administration at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and corporate management, as Corporate Manager of Gift Registry at Service Merchandise and Marketing Manager at Prison Health Services and Secure Pharmacy Plus, two Nashville-based companies that provided health care services to incarcerated populations.  Laura was also an elementary school teacher in Williamson County, TN for several years.  She excels in strategic planning, corporate marketing development and placement, and grant/proposal preparation.  Laura’s experience with federal, national, and local grants/proposals, and her varied work experience make her uniquely positioned to assist clients positively position themselves in the marketplace and successfully secure external funding.  Laura has a BA in Economics from Vanderbilt University, an MBA from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University, and a MA in Education from Cumberland University.

Sophie Tate has experience in humanities, scientific, and communications writing. At Crestside Consulting she collaborates with nonprofit organizations to secure funding for both general operations and flagship programs. With a background both in art and chemistry, Sophie brings an interdisciplinary approach to writing. Known for her ability to clearly communicate an organization’s mission, goals, and impact, she tailors each grant proposal to align with the priorities of funders, ensuring her clients’ objectives resonate with potential supporters. Her strategic thinking, combined with meticulous attention to detail, has contributed to her success in helping organizations expand their impact and secure the resources they need to thrive.

Sophie holds dual degrees in Art Studio (BFA) and Chemistry (BS) from The University of Alabama at Birmingham, graduating summa cum laude in both fields. As a visual artist, she has exhibited widely across the Southeast and is active in arts education through workshops and talks. Her experience in the arts sector allows her to effectively write arts-based grants that address both creative and organizational needs.
